Petroc Art & Design Show a Window on Local Talent

Picture
Petroc Art & Design Foundation Diploma Student Jack Stiling
Petroc Art & Design Foundation Degree Show is a window on local talent and the fab new facilities at the Brannams Campus in Barnstaple.

I attended a private view of Pigments, Pixels and Particles, an exhibition of final work by Petroc Art & Design Foundation Degree students at Brannams Campus last night.  It was a joy to see such talent displayed in the superb new Art & Design facility at Roundswell in Barnstaple.

The light and airy campus is a perfect venue to showcase the superb work by students from the Foundation Degree in Art & Design at Barnstaple.  The graduating students proudly displayed their final pieces of work to hundreds of guests.  On show were wall sized paintings, beautiful original ceramic teapots alongside comic cartoon strips and colourful book illustrations.

There was more upstairs too; students from the Foundation Diploma course exhibited examples of their arts including textile design, animation, a DJ desk and a giant robot.   There was also an elaborate piece of armour designed and built by Jack Stiling from Bishop's Tawton who studied Art at A level at Petroc Barnstaple and went on to take the Foundation Diploma which moved to the Brannams Campus earlier this year.  Jack is now looking forward to moving on to a degree course in 3D Design at University College Falmouth.

In one huge warehouse we even saw some stunning functional sculpture in the decorative brick walls and chimneys on show.  The wealth of talent on display is a tribute to the College and the team of tutors and course leaders at Petroc.

The exhibition is running at Petroc Brannams until 2 July and is open week days from 9.30 to 3.30.
