This years Bideford R’n’B Festival starts off on Weds 6 July with a free gig from 17 year old blues prodigy Luke Doherty and his new band.  Playing both original and classic blues tracks,  this talented teenager is well worth a look.

On Fri 8 July there’s a rare chance to see East Anglian 3 piece Smokin’ Hogs bring their down ‘n’ dirty, punchy R’n’B to the Palladium’s stage.  Their style is based on late 60’s, early 70’s British rock and blues, high energy and authentic, laden with Seasick Steve like heavy dirty grooves.  £5 entry on the door.

The headline act of the festival Wilko Johnson appears on Sat 9 July in his smallest gig of the year.  After the success of the Dr Feelgood film ‘Oil City Confidential’ in which Wilko became the unexpected hero, there has been a renewed interest in him and his music, which has even led to a TV role!  Expect an evening of musical mastery as Wilko’s unique guitar style joins forces with the brilliant bass of the ‘Blockheads’ Norman Watt-Roy and the hard hitting rhythm of drummer Dylan Howe.

Tickets £14 adv, £15 on the door, available from the club, as well as www.ticketweb.co.uk, www.wegottickets.com,  www.seetickets.com and Solo Records, Barnstaple 01271 325274.

There’s another free entry gig on Weds 13 July when Cornish based Devils Creekpay their first visit to the Palladium.  This highly experienced trio with their blistering original blues rock are promoting their new album ‘Th3rds’.

In a special reunion gig for guitarist Steve Payne’s side project the Woolly Bullies return to the club on Fri 15 July.  Expect an eclectic mix of original music and obscure covers firmly based in the blues.  Steve will be joined by 3 top session guys.  £4 entry on the door

The finale to the festival is a first appearance at the club by The Eddie Martin Big Band on Sat 16 July. Charismatic multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, one man band and band leader, Eddie Martin is joined by his band the Little Big Horns for a night of soul-tinged R’n’B.

Tickets £10 available from the club, as well as websites above. All shows are 8pm doors.
